40 Date Ideas every Married Couple should try.

40 Date ideas every married couple should try.

40 Date ideas for Married Couples

It only took five years but my husband and I are doing our best to start dating again.

Date each other…. Of course!! 😉 It has been fun becoming creative with date ideas for our marriage.

Sounds weird to say we are dating again when we are married with five kids but yes, we seriously NEEDED to start dating again.

And I am so glad we decided to take the initiative about a year ago to make sure we have “US” time. Not going to lie…. It was hard at first.

Not because we were in a “troubled marriage”; though I think if we didn’t take this past year to date, we possibly could have been.

It was hard because we were so comfortable in our normal everyday routine with the kids. It didn’t feel like much else was there for us for awhile. Just home, church life, and kids. Making time for each other was suddenly becoming something we had to step out of our comfort zone from.

But we pushed through and we learned to really enjoy every moment of it. We now look forward to being alone together. The awkward stage is over with. Yay!

We are now blissfully dating as a married couple every week!!

If you and your spouse is starting a new season to intentionally date, do not expect it or make into being all about romance the whole time. Date night should be focused on being together. It’s about ensuring each other we are there and present. A time to enjoy growing with one another through reconnecting.

If you are a someone that would like to intentionally start dating your spouse again to rekindle the fire between you two but unfortunately see no desire in your partner to do the same, I highly encourage to start praying. Pray that they have a desire to be one with you, to fall in love with your marriage again, and to crave intimacy in marriage.

God desires for us to be intimate. It is not wrong to pray these things. It is actually our responsibility to keep the intimate unity in our marriage together and if the other is not trying, it does not mean you do not try.

Best tips to give for when you are dating:

  • Do your best to keep the phones away.

  • Keep eye contact as much as possible.

  • Give compliments to your spouse  through out the night.

  • Do not put expectations on your spouse or on the date. Just enjoy being with each other.

  • Laugh out loud.

  • Take down your walls. Remove any fears.

  • Feel free with your spouse as marriage is intended to be.

Here are 40 date ideas for married couples:

  1. Drive in movies.
  2. A night at the beach.
  3. Wedding vow renewal in middle of nowhere. Just you and him.
  4. Balloon fight / water gun fight.
  5. Nerf gun fight in the house.
  6. Hike to a lake or river.
  7. Go bowling.
  8. Star gazing in your backyard or nearby park. Download astronomy apps.
  9. Antique shopping.
  10. Yard sales. Estate Sales.
  11. Game Night. Play cards, dominos, or favorite board games from your childhood.
  12. Binge watch a TV or movie series. Order food in.
  13. Go to the movie theater together. (I know this may seem like an easy date to think of but for some of us, it takes extreme motivation to do this. Me and my husband went three years at one point of never going. So many movies we missed together).
  14. Go on a drive around town. (We do this at least twice a week without our kids for one hour. It is our time to have quality talks.)
  15. Food tour. Have an appetizer at one place, head to the next to have your entrée, then another for desert. End at your favorite coffee spot.
  16. Day trip to a place neither of you have gone before.
  17. Find a cozy place to watch the sunset.
  18. Go window shopping that will spark conversations for the future. (Model homes, open houses, furniture stores, Car or RV centers, ect..)
  19. Baseball night game – Major league, Minors, or high school are all great games to be at.
  20. Driving range. (This is personally one of my favorites. Though I am not a great golfer, I find this  to be a great stress reliever.)
  21. Couples massage, reflexology,  or pedicures.
  22. Bike riding.
  23. Go to an arcade, play laser tag, or ride go karts.

  24. Go out with your favorite married couple. Sometimes having another couple on the date reminds us that we are not the only married couple that has a hard time to date.
  25. Rent a boat and go out on a lake.
  26. Camping.
  27. Take the five love language quiz then read about your traits together.

  28. Watch a sports game together. Grill dinner together or order in wings with root beer floats
  29. Play video games. (We did this before but we get to competitive…lol)
  30. Meet at a quaint coffee shop and sit outside together.
  31. Write a list of goals and plans for the future together.
  32. Home project together.
  33. Take a day alone to create an area in your yard together as an oasis. A place that you both can sit in the evening time to just sit and talk.
  34. Workout together.
  35. A nearby water park or amusement park.
  36. Check out your local attractions such as: farmers market, public library, art museums, festivals, ect.
  37. Plan your next vacation together. Discuss places, things to do, and how to save for the big trip.
  38. Check out Groupon for many frugal date ideas for around your area.

  39. Host a game night gathering together with other couples. No kids allowed.
  40. Last but Most important…. Make time to be intimate with your spouse.

Find a new way to spice things up. Dress up, wear their favorite perfume. Keep the night focused on just intimacy.

Treat your spouse special on the date night. Not all date ideas here will be perfect for each married couple but we can do our part of making a date night great by making them feel special.

When we don’t have the money to go out here are the dates we do at home:
    – candle-lit Picnic in the living room
    – board game competition
    – wiki wars
    – sleepover on the pullout couch + fort building (sometimes sleeping in a new place, even if it’s in the living room, can change up your routine and send the sparks flying)
    – play some sexy games and try something new in the bedroom (or anywhere in the house) 😉
    – make a meal together and feed each other
    – give each other massages
    – truth or dare

These are great ideas! We have actually done paint night twice. Once for our anniversary and the second time with another couple. We enjoyed it both times. I think getting out and trying something new is a great way to build intimacy as a couple and it keeps things interesting.

While we don’t go on dates every week, I can say that even the ANTICIPATION of a date can do wonders for our marriage. It’s so fun to plan our time together, talk about it, and look forward to it together. Your post gave me some good ideas and reminded me we need to do this more often. Great post!

Thanks for this post. Just the other night, I was looking for ideas to do with my husband rather than binging Netflix together.
    Amusement park does sound good!

So sorry about your health!! I know that can be hard. There was a year where my sons health did not allow us to have quality alone time and a time of where almost a year where my own health did not allow us to go on romantic dates so I completely understand the struggle behind it. But I am so glad this encouraged you to make a goal for a date this month. That truly makes me happy!

Love these. We used to do date night weekly but it got a little pricey. I’m going to do some of these home options though. Thanks for this list! Maybe we can do the out of the house ones once or twice a month and the in house ones on the other weeks.

oh my goodness yes, dates can get pricey!! Ugghhh, I so wish it wasn’t so more married couples would be encouraged to date more. But you have a brilliant idea to do two at home dates and two where you both can get away together alone.

It’s amazing how easy it is to get busy with kids, work, and life in general (all good things) and suddenly realize that you’ve stopped dating your spouse. Love these tips!!!

I know, right?! One day we wake up and ask ourself, when was the last time we spent time alone?! It just happens suddenly. A little scary but hopefully we learn to be attentive to our marriage in this area.
