’30 Things to do before starting a Blog’ List

and 25% off the By His Grace We Blog eBook.

As I have mentioned in one of my previous posts, “Spreading the Gospel through Blogging”, I am passionate about encouraging people to blog for Christ. I read a statistic that 85% blogs fail within the first six months of blogging. That number astonished me. I couldn’t help but think about how many of those could have been one’s that started a blog as a ministry.  Through that, I created a list that I hope to encourage new bloggers.

If you have not yet, read my post about Spreading the Gospel Through Blogging to learn more about the statistic and what Christian based niches might be the best fit for you!

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,  then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. I wish I had this list before I began my blog! I’m overwhelmed with how much work it is!! I’ve managed blogs before, but nothing like this. I want to follow your advice now that I’ve started my website, but I’m not sure how to go backward. Any suggestions? Right now, the main tip that would have helped me was having 10 posts written ahead of time! I don’t have the time to write blog posts like I thought I would with also working 60+ hours a week as a full-time freelance writer! I figured this would be super easy – not so!! I’d love to hear from you! Thank you for the valuable advice!! <3 Michele Kelsey

Hello Michele! First of all, welcome to blogging in a whole new beginning and way as you have mentioned! It is definitely overwhelming but exceedingly rewarding in ways that is hard to explain to anyone that is not a blogger… lol. As for going backwards, I would say just start it now where you are at. I have done this before with my own list when I began to feel overwhelming. I am a firm believer in always going back to the beginning every so often, for one… it reminds you how to take things one thing at a time, and it revives your “why”. If you are wanting to have 10 posts ready. Take a week off where you are just writing. Get up and write one hour a day. Within the week, you will find some writing juice that will suddenly revive your passion for that part of blogging. Before you know it, writing will come easily then it will not feel like the burden part of the process. The best advice I ever read from a blogger was to make time to write at least one hour a day. Not to make it about your blog but just write. Without even realizing it, writing ideas will come naturally. Hope his response helps. Let me know if you have any questions. =)
